On Oct. 2 The American River College football team lost 16-30 against Laney College out of Oakland.

Laney College is well-known to some  TV viewers, thanks to the team’s appearance on the hit Netflix show “Last Chance U,” which is about the grind and lifestyle that comes with community college football.

The team had a few key plays in the contest. Quarterback Robert Jones had a total of two touchdowns.

The defense had a blocked extra point attempt returned for two points after a Laney touchdown, and also an interception returned for a touchdown.

The game’s atmosphere was gloomy, as the team’s body language made them seem defeated, possibly as a result of its current losing streak.

ARC finished with a total of 186 yards on offense, with 120 passing, and 66 yards rushing.

Laney College finished with a total of 559 yards, with 356 passing, and 203 rushing yards.

The Beavers had ten first downs, and Laney college had a total of 25 first downs. ARC’s time of possession was 20:19, and Laneys time of possession was 39:19.

Yardage and time of possession seemed to be the two significant factors that lead to the game’s outcome.

Jon Osterhout, ARC’s head football coach, said the team will use its bye week, which is a week without any games played, to focus on aspects of the game they wish to improve.

“We are constantly working as coaches and players to get back to playing 60 minutes of complementary football,” Osterhout said. “We have played three quality opponents, and we are reassessing during the bye week how we can improve heading into conference play.”

The team in fact did so as they won its conference game 28-13 against Shasta College.

The team still has 4 games left in the season as they look to push towards playoff contention down the stretch of the season.

The team will be looking to improve as they face Santa Rosa college at home on Oct. 23 at 1 pm.
