As summertime rolls around, so does some of the year’s best movie releases. Last summer, the cinema captivated the world in a way that hasn’t been seen in a very long time, mostly because of the “Barbenheimer” weekend in which both “Oppenheimer” and “Barbie” released on the same day.

This summer, the movies have a chance to build off of last summer and get people back into movie theater seats. A wide variety of movies are set to release in a plethora of genres.

Firstly, there are a handful of highly anticipated animated movies set to hit theaters. Notably, “Inside Out 2” is set to release on June 14, and “Despicable Me 4” is set to release July 3. Both films are following extremely popular previous films in their respective franchises and will look to build fresh storylines upon their existing characters.

Action movie-lovers will get their fix of explosions, fight scenes and CGI this summer. That is due largely in part to the newest MCU movie, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which releases on July 26. This will be the third movie in the Deadpool franchise, and despite it being the first movie made under Disney, it will keep its R-rated humor while also bringing in the beloved character of Wolverine.

For those who like action but not anything Marvel-related, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” starring Will Smith comes out on June 7, and “Twisters” starring Glen Powell hits theaters on July 19.

Horror movie fanatics also have plenty to look forward to as well. This is due in large part to “The Exorcism” starring Russell Crowe coming out on June 21.

That isn’t to mention “A Quiet Place: Day One,” the prequel to the popular “A Quiet Place” movies hitting the big screen on June 28.

While it is going to be borderline impossible to beat what “Barbenheimer” did in the box office last summer, movie theaters have a chance to make some serious cash this summer. With a steady mix of all the movie genres hitting theaters, the 2024 summer should be one to remember in terms of movie releases.
