At 9:02 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 8, a message was sent to all American River College students and staff informing them of an internet outage that the main campus and ARC Centers are experiencing due to a “college hardware issue,” according to the Los Rios Information Technology Department.
The outage means that multiple tools and services on campus cannot be accessed, such as emails, shared files and the internet, including all ARC-supported campus computers and ARC-technology services.
The ARC campus will remain closed at least through Monday, Feb. 9, as classes and services are to resume remotely.
The estimated time of arrival of the internet’s return to functionality is currently unknown; however, it is expected to last through Monday, according to the IT Department.
For students, they are to check their Canvas for specific instructions on Monday from their instructors on how to proceed.
In an email to faculty sent Sunday night, ARC president Lisa Cardoza said the decision to move classes online was made due to the sudden timing of the outage.
“We realize some classes and programs may be able to operate without the internet, but with so little time to communicate with students, we believed the most prudent approach for Monday was to universally move all classes and services remote,” Cardoza wrote in her email.
