Making this change in some industries creates uncertainty within the workforce. These transformations about what’s going on in the job market on how the technology is evolving on working itself. They are also changing the restructuring of the workforce using AI tools, changing the requirements needed for seeking a job.
According to the World Economic Forum, artificial intelligence with automation is creating millions of new jobs in the field of data analysis, cybersecurity and AI development. The expansion of artificial intelligence moves across industries current years, from healthcare, finance and manufacturing. Big companies are investing billions of dollars in reducing function costs making artificial intelligence a daily management of getting hired processes and workforce requirements that continues to evolve. Some workers are uncertain about job expulsion, while other individuals may see AI to be a benefit in their job department. Students and job applicants are still trying to understand the role in the workforce is changing from skilled employees roles to technology roles now.
Article Intelligence is making it difficult in the job market leading to difficulties just to have an interview anywhere. Many careers are already witnessing the change and struggles of the use of AI in some areas of the job market. According to the article Is A closing the door on entry-level job opportunities? | they read about the percentages of new Gen Z that are job hunting. They believe that AI is discarding this education when job finding.
Ryan Grent, a computer engineering major at American River College says he has concerns about AI’s rapid effect on jobs. The large impact of the technology industry is raising uncertainty of having long-term stability due to the companies making their focus on automatic and AI being restructured in the competition of open availability.
“So many companies like Microsoft are laying off in hefty amounts with big industries like Facebook, Meta, Microsoft, and Nvidia following in their footsteps.” Grent said.
According to Tech Layoffs, which tracks the large-scale technology companies that lay off their employees bi-weekly, to counteract AI’s growth, some move to careers with the least risk of AI in the field but, as AI continues to evolve more, students are left with uncertainty over opportunities. Having to compete with AI other than using it as a helping guide, and only seeing it as a replacement to people affects navigating the future job market
Homaira Harris, biology major, said her main priority is going into the medical field. While her thoughts of AI being used in the medical field are limited, she does have concerns about how it’s used. With the workforce growing and changing, students must adapt to work alongside artificial intelligence to understand the technology tools in future careers.
“My concern for Al in the field is that it’s so easy for people. If I use [AI] a lot then I’m not learning what I need to learn when I need to use those skills.” Harris said.
According to research from the Harvard Medical School, artificial intelligence is being used in medical field service with diagnosis and treatments, analyzing X-ray anomaly and aiding treatment for the patients.
Barry Williams, dual major for electrical engineering and certificate of engineering, says his main concern about AI is the use for hiring candidates for jobs. Many companies are now relying on artificial intelligence tools for reviewing resumes, helping to find effective candidates. Artificial intelligence has been getting concerns as the result of the person’s resumes getting outlooked especially for the qualified candidates during the hiring process.
“AI has an enormous backdrop of people losing their jobs. I do believe AI is making it hard to get hired. A lot of these jobs are using AI to get candidates.” Williams said.
More companies are starting to increase the use of artificial intelligence with simple and daily tasks that were once used to be human roles. Scanning resumes for applications, now used to reduce the labor costs to save time to quickly go through the resumes. Many have concerns about how much they go through by how the company sets them up what to find on the resumes. A lot of companies are now relying on the tool to do such a simple task that used to be a human task. The value of using AI for the role of looking for more candidates for the company is concerning due to its lack of human judgment and long-term knowledge. With the lack of the judgment the tool has, it raises job seekers’ concerns for their resumes to be reviewed by the tool’s chance of bypassing them without trying, especially when some of the candidates are worthy to have a simple interview.
Many employers use artificial intelligence for scanning resumes and using filter tools to identify qualified candidates. The tools they are using to get large amounts to be overlooked.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, years of the rise of competition in the job market shows the data and charts of hiring and job openings.
Some graduates say they have less of a concern with AI being used in their field of the affects and the changes of the hiring process. The reactions of people that are depending on the use of AI in other other industries that rely heavily with only hands-on and in person interactions, although some still have questions about if artificial intelligence would be a threat or a useful tool for human judgment.
Barbie Schmidt, animal science major, says AI being used in her field of veterinary is limited with the usage of artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence use with animals has a low chance of being good use in that career field of hers.
“I think that it’s less personal and people just rely on Al, they can get through things quicker. That’s dismissive of people who would like to be hired.” Schmidt said.
According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, many use the help of AI filter hiring on resumers.
The upcoming of artificial intelligence making changes to the job market, making challenges including the changes of the hiring process. Many of the new graduates and others are uncertain about the future of careers with AI in the process of being used for certain careers.
As artificial intelligence is dominating companies and job skills, they still need to have human skills, especially judgment. If these tools continue, the rise of uncertainties of getting hired would change the futures of careers. With the already known outcome of using artificial intelligence as the role that was once a human task is now covering it, the results of using the tool are making them overlook and filtering out some of what they need in a candidate’s resume..
“I do believe AI is making it hard to get hired,” Williams said.
