American River College provides many different tutoring programs on campus, but there is one specific program that you need if you need tutoring.
The Learning Resource Center provides tutoring for its students at ARC. According to ARC’s website, LRC tutoring is a “vibrant community dedicated to nurturing your educational journey.”
At the LRC, you receive the help you need with your assignments and a chance to make new friends and be part of a campus community.
With LRC tutoring you can find staff that will provide you with so much support, but also students that can support you as well.
There is no need to be shy or intimidated by everyone who is part of the LRC tutoring. As you slowly progress, it will soon feel like a place to go comfortably.
Everyone is there for the same reasons as you and there is never anything wrong with needing some extra help with your education. This is why tutoring is the best option to provide you with everything you need if you are struggling with classes this year.
According to Sima Mohen, an LRC tutor coordinator, there was a student who was initially quite shy when she first approached the center. Over time, she began attending tutoring sessions regularly and made noticeable progress in both her academic skills and confidence. She was so appreciative of the support she received that she wrote a thoughtful note of thanks to her tutor during Tutor Appreciation Week and continues to express her gratitude whenever she sees the tutoring staff around campus.
Tutoring at ARC was moved from the Student Center building to the LRC building at the start of the 2024 fall semester. The change of location was a difficult adjustment for some students who were already attending the tutoring in the SC building, especially the students of Disability Services and Program for Students.
“In Fall 2024, we experienced an increase in student traffic, which prompted us to expand our staffing and enhance training efforts to maintain the high quality of support we offer,” Mohen said in an email interview with the Current.
LRC tutoring has a huge building that provides many computers and desks for their students which I think is very thoughtful for the learning of students.
As of 2025, the students have been positively impacted by the tutoring provided at LRC tutoring which has been helpful to their learning.
The ARC website provides lots of information on the LRC tutoring being both on campus and online.
Campus tutoring is Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Learning Resource Center building. For online tutoring, there is a platform called Penji, which is what LRC tutoring uses for scheduling and tutoring. If you need an example on how to use the Penji platform, you can find the video here for a step-by-step.
LRC providing both online and in-person tutoring for different preferences of students is quite resourceful. There are many students who are not comfortable communicating in-person, so having an online option gives them a better chance for tutoring.
“Since the start of this year, we have seen steady growth in the Learning Resource Center’s
tutoring programs,” Mohen said, “This includes an increase in the number of tutors we have employed, the number of students we have served, and the range of subjects we now support.”
If you are someone who needs tutoring with any subject, I recommend you check out the LRC tutoring. There is a great amount of support and help that you can receive here.
LRC tutoring even has fun events scheduled on certain days for their students. As of this month, there are two events coming up. One is a writing center pizza party for national poetry month which is scheduled on April 16 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the LRC building. The other event is called unlock the mysteries of chance which is on April 21 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
If you have any questions that you would like to ask the LRC tutoring program, you should contact them via email [email protected] or phone (916) 484-8808.
