Marvel fans have expressed both excitement and concerns, but many have yet to watch the film before sharing their opinions. 

Before reviewing the new Captain America movie, here is a recap of the events leading up to the movie.

At the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” many fans knew that the title of Captain America would be passed on to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, also known as Falcon in the Marvelverse. 

If you haven’t seen the show, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney+, you need to watch it before watching the movie in theaters. In the show, Wilson decided to give away the shield of Captain America to the U.S. government to display it in a museum. This resulted in the reason for the new Captain America movie because Wilson finally decided to take the title of Captain America at the end of the show. 

As a Marvel fan myself, I was conflicted about watching the film when the trailer first came out. I knew the title “Captain America” would be given to someone new since Steve Rogers, who is the original Captain America, had an ending in the “Avengers: Endgame” movie. 

I’ve watched Steve Rogers as Captain America since the first movie came out and I can tell you it was hard for me to accept the fact that the title has moved on to a new character. 

When I first saw the trailer, it caught my interest with the reveal of Red Hulk in the film and the fight scenes with the iconic shield brought back memories of Steve Rogers, the original Captain America. Red Hulk, also known as Abomination, was one of the villains in “The Incredible Hulk” movie, which was released in 2008. 

I have seen the movie, and I can safely say that it is not as bad as some people think. I have been watching all Marvel movies for a long time, so my expectations were definitely met. I loved the fight scenes, cameos of old characters from other Marvel movies and the story itself  followed along the timeline. 

We get a good sneak peek of a new Avengers team that will soon be formed, which makes me excited for the new characters that will be introduced. Some of these characters that are rumored to be joining are from other Marvel movies and shows. 

The Red Hulk met my expectations as I had hoped it would. Seeing the Red Hulk again compared to the one you see in the old Hulk movies felt nostalgic. 

The fight between Captain America and Red Hulk is one of my favorite scenes in the movie. It totally made me miss the Marvel movies and gave me nostalgia for the good fights that I’ve seen in Marvel movies. 

Overall, I rate the movie an eight out of ten. I feel that people want to add things that the movie did not need. They wanted some of the CGI or villain looks to be different, but I think the villain looks and CGI were good. 

Even if I enjoyed it, some fans were not as enthusiastic as me and other fans for this new Captain America movie. In fact, there has been a split of opinions on the movie by fans.

“I just left the cinema and honestly what a horrible film, it didn’t exceed my expectations, I expected more, much more,” said @belmontebjj_ on Marvel Studios’ post on Instagram about the trailer of the movie on Feb. 22. 

“SAMMMM!!!!!! I love him as Cap,” said @ogvegasbodypumpguy on Marvel Studios’ post on Instagram about the trailer of the movie on Feb. 20. 

Marvel fans should check out the movie. It is a great film overall, though it could be improved. This is a new era of Captain America and the new Avengers, so it definitely must be seen.
