On Feb. 15, the Los Rios Community College District announced in an email from LRCCD Chancellor Brian King that all classes that were originally scheduled to be on-ground will return to campus on Feb. 22.

“Effective Tuesday, February 22, we will resume in-person instruction for all classes that were originally scheduled in-person and resume in-person services where appropriate,” King said in the email.

There will be no changes to classes that were scheduled online, according to the email.

“If you signed up for an online class, there will be no change and your classes will remain online,” King said.

According to the email, the rise in COVID-19 cases forced most classes and services to remain online. But with cases dropping, there can be a return to campus.

“Now, fortunately, regional public health experts are sharing that cases and hospitalizations are declining rapidly,” King said.

The district will continue to monitor and respond quickly to the public health dynamics within the community, according to the email.

Despite the statewide mask mandate being lifted, the district will continue to maintain the mask requirement that was already in place.

In a video released on American River College’s YouTube page, ARC President Melanie Dixon expressed her gratitude towards everyone’s ability to adapt.

“On behalf of the entire executive team, we want to thank you for your patience, flexibility and resilience as we start another semester and end up reverting back to the online environment,” Dixon said in the video.

Dixon says she is excited to see more students and faculty return to campus.

“I’m thrilled to be on campus right now and start to see the hustle and bustle of our college community and look forward to welcoming many more of our faculty and classified professionals back to campus,” Dixon said.

Dixon provided some hope for the future.

“I wish you all a wonderful remainder of the semester and look forward to welcoming more of you back on Feb. 22,” Dixon said. “We are turning the corner on this weird experience that we’ve had over the last couple of years.”
