The Indigenous Peoples Day march made its way around the American River College campus on Oct. 9. Bear Jackson, elder of the Shoshone tribe of western Nevada, made it a priority to be at the march. “I took the time off work to share songs, words, dance and to watch our future leaders,” Jackson said. “You must have prayer and singing, it’s what makes us who we are. It’s important to teach it to our youth.”

English and Theatre major Katie Stepp gets her face painted by General Education major Daianna Williams at the first annual Bucky Island Festival on the American River College main campus on May 2, in celebration of the end of the semester, finals, and for graduating students. Snow cones, balloon animals, face paint, card tricks, and an inflatable surfrider peppered the lawn in front of the library, providing students with fun activities to help mitigate the stress of finals, or the transition of their next step in life.
