The American River College women’s tennis team wrapped up conference play on April 5 defeating Folsom Lake College 5-0, winning the Big 8 Conference.

The Beavers brought their A-game as they kept the Falcons on their toes with some nice serves and winning off rallys.

Cheers of “Let’s go lady Beavs” and “let’s go AR” were heard around the tennis courts as ARC teammates encouraged each other.

The first two doubles matches were quick and the third one was a hard-fought battle.

The singles matches didn’t last long as ARC dominated and took down their opponents.

Bella Hernandez, freshman, reflected on her play against FLC.

“I think I did pretty good, I had a hard time this morning,” Hernandez said. “So playing the matches were hard emotionally, but physically they were fine.”

Hernandez said that she is looking forward to the state matches in Los Angeles.

Steven Dunmore, women’s tennis coach, spoke highly of his team’s performance against FLC.

“The ladies were very relaxed and very confident so I thought they played beautifully and the scores indicate that,” Dunmore said.

Dunmore says that it was perfect weather for tennis as there was sunshine and a cool, light breeze.

“It’s fantastic, it’s been one of our most challenging years, you know we had so many rainouts but having the opportunity to reschedule them has been nearly impossible too,” Dunmore said.

Hernandez says it was great to have sunshine for the matches. The rain has not only canceled recent games but practices too. The athletes are playing matches with little practice.

ARC hosted the Big 8 individual conference tournament on April 6-8, which determined who qualified to play in the state individual tournament coming up on April 27-30.
