The American River College Beaver Cares Team hosts a monthly food drive, but will also host an additional food drive this month to honor the Thanksgiving holiday.

Valerie Adger, ARC’s student support supervisor, says each month the Beaver Cares Team hosts a drive-thru food distribution complete with boxed non-perishable food items as well as boxed fresh produce.

“This month we are hosting two—one before the traditional Thanksgiving holiday, and one after on the 30th,” Adger said in an email to the Current. “This is due to an increased cost to most families’ grocery budgets for this time of year.”

The produce boxes will be larger than the normal offering as well, Adger added.

“In addition to the food distribution, we have an on-campus daily Food Pantry that is stocked with non-perishables for students, as well as grocery gift cards for students who cannot get to campus for either the pantry or the distribution,” Adger said.

Adger says that any student with an ID number is welcome to participate in these events and that the Beaver Cares Team does take sign-ups, but it isn’t required.

“Last year, we were just getting started with our food distributions and did not offer any special events for the holidays,” Adger said.

This year, they are able to do so due to several generous donations as well as federal grant money, Adger added.

The food drive will be located at the Portable Village on the ARC campus.
