American River College is working with TimelyCare: Telehealth to provide students free medical and mental health care that is accessible 24/7. This service is part of the Los Rios Health Services program.

According to information posted on the ARC website, TimelyCare: Telehealth offers medical providers that can diagnose common conditions such as the cold, flu or sinus infection. The TalkNow service gives students a safe space to talk when they’re experiencing things like anxiety surrounding COVID-19, relationship issues or depression.

TimelyCare is a free telehealth service that is 24/7, where students can address common conditions that can be safely diagnosed and treated remotely by medical professionals.

Edson Simon, an EMT major at ARC, says he would consider using the service because mental health is important to him.

“More so now than ever, students are under a lot of stress when it comes to living day to day in a pandemic,” Simon said. “Having tools for students to reach out for is important as you never know what someone might be going through and how it affects their school life.”

TimelyMD allows college students to access counselors, doctors, nurse practitioners and more.

Simon says he has a good relationship with one of ARC’s counselors, and that they could possibly be another outlet for students.

I think making counselors more accessible to students is what I’d like to see,” Simon said. “Maybe a couple of support groups added onto that so students don’t have to feel alone in their struggles with mental health, which could happen with one on one help.”
