American River College president Thomas Greene poses on the new Arcade Creek bridge during its grand opening at American River College on Oct. 18, 2018. In 2011, the Sacramento Area Sewer District wanted to minimize liability concerns by closing off access to a sewage pipeline that served as a bridge between ARC and the Arcade Creek neighborhood, according to Arcade Creek Recreation and Park District administrator Steven Fraher. The community’s reaction to the Sewer District’s decision led to a plan by ACRPD to build a bridge in its place. After receiving funding in 2015, the project began to take form through the cooperation of the Sacramento Area Sewer District with ARC and Sacramento County. Construction of the bridge finished Sept. 17 and the landscape is set to be cultivated by the ARC Horticulture Department. (Photo by Ashley Hayes-Stone)
