American River College’s women’s volleyball lost at home against the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs on Oct. 10. After a tough battle by ARC and relentless offense from the Mustangs, the Beavers lost 1-3.
The first set began with a strong start from the Mustangs, with SJDC immediately getting points on the board. However, ARC started building up momentum and won the set 25-15 due to strong attacks from their outsides and impressive defensive play. Stand out players were outsides, Aria Woltz and Cyana Mulitalo, helping their team out on the offensive and defensive end of play.
The Beavers started the second set off strong with powerful attacks from hitters and competitive defense, especially from libero, Maddy Rossman. However, the Mustangs got the lead and kept it, winning set 2, 20-25.
Set 3 was more of the same story, with SJDC running away with the game, winning 25-18.
The final set was a tough competition, with the Beavers fighting to gain the lead and stay in the match, however SJDC did not let their lead slip once. ARC put up a strong fight, but eventually lost 23-25.
“I don’t think it was necessarily anything we did that wasn’t great, they just played their A-game the whole time and we hung in there really well,” said Rheann Fall, head coach of ARC women’s volleyball. “I’m excited for how the gals played and competed the whole time.”
With the recent at home loss, ARC women’s volleyball team now has a 14-2 conference record, tying them for first with Sierra College. SJDC’s record is now 13-3. ARC will play the Mustangs again on Nov. 12 in its penultimate conference game.
