American River College’s student ambassadors will be hosting a tea party event for students on Nov. 12-13, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Center of Leadership and Development located in the Student Center. With support from the Associated Student Body in funding this event, it’s promoted as a campus life event where students can stop by and be treated to snacks and boba drinks, while learning about how to get involved on campus.
April Starr, a student ambassador and ASB club and events board vice president, has expressed the team’s reasoning for holding an outreach event to students to inform them about the work of student ambassadors.
“There’s a huge disconnect with students when it comes to leadership and being involved on campus whether that’s online or in person,” Starr said. “This event is kind of highlighting how to get involved on campus through student government, clubs, potentially campus jobs and then committees that all students are able to join as well.”
According to Starr, the ARC student ambassadors are one of the first people that new students engage with besides admissions and records and the welcome and support center, but many students have no idea of their existence. Ambassadors are all in charge of giving campus tours, ID pictures as well as hosting ASB and other clubs in their offices and conference rooms. Although not all student ambassadors are ASB members, some are involved in both making this an event where students can learn about the roles and involvement of both teams.
Through this event the student ambassadors plan to not only inform students on their roles and resources, but to make connections with students on campus.
“It’s mostly just to connect, but try to also put a voice into our space because most people don’t know we are student ambassadors and what we do,” Starr said. “We’re student employees here to help you.”
The event will start off with a presentation and an icebreaker to encourage socialization among attendees. Students will then be treated to catering from Tapioca Express with the options of milk tea, Thai tea and boba. This event will stretch over two days to accommodate students with both a Monday/Wednesday schedule and a Tuesday/Thursday schedule, to provide all students an opportunity to socialize and become informed on the resources of campus life.
