As we are still in the throes of the pandemic, we continue to face plenty of shutdowns. However,  there have finally been some businesses reopening, including coffee shops that are putting down their tables and chairs to offer indoor and outdoor seating. 

Coffee shops can provide students with a safe, productive and cozy environment for studying and midterm cramming. It is nice to have a place away from the distractions and lazy-inducing qualities that home inhibits. 

Based on good ambiance, hours of operation, number of outlets, distance from campus and quality of coffee, here is a list of six coffee shops to visit for studying. 

  1. Temple Coffee

Temple Coffee has plenty of seating, outlets and even free Wi-Fi, making it an ideal place for students to charge up and access the internet freely as they work on assignments. They have a variety of drinks and the iced matcha with vanilla and the enlightenment tea are two great options to try. Open Monday-Sunday 6 a.m.-10 p.m. 2600 Fair Oaks Blvd #101.

     2. World Traveller

One of the best parts about this coffee shop is the taste and quality of the pastries and coffee. The iced London fog and iced Jasmine with flower tea and sweetened with vanilla are two great drinks they have. The setting is very aesthetic and there is also nice outdoor seating.  World Traveller is located at 603 E Bidwell St. Suite A, Folsom, and the hours are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m Saturday and Sunday.

   3. Pause Coffee House

Pause Coffee House has plenty of seating, including outdoors and couches, great coffee and good music. Some recommended drinks are any of their tasty seasonal latte options.  8121 Madison Ave, Fair Oaks, and the hours are from 7 a.m.- 6 p.m. Monday thru Sunday.

   4. Fast Cat Coffee

This coffee shop offers friendly service, free Wi-Fi, USB ports, coffee and a full menu of grilled cheese sandwich options. Some great drinks of theirs to try are their unique variety of fruit-flavored mochas. 7901 Fair Oaks Blvd, Carmichael. They are closed Monday, open 7 a.m.- 5 p.m. Tuesday thru Friday, and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and are soon to be extended.

   5. Peet’s Coffee

This coffee shop, part of the national chain, provides a good atmosphere and menu selection from studying, great coffee, and pastries. A recommended drink from here would be the vanilla latte. 8909 Madison Ave Suite 400, Fair Oaks, and their hours are 5:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m, Monday thru Friday, and 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

   6. Barrios 

Barrios has board games, card games, books, live music and outdoor seating. Barrios also has a variety of house-made drinks, including horchata and a lavender honey latte. 1188 35th Ave. and their hours are 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays.
