It is the first week of school for those attending the fall semester at American River College. The beginning of school typically greets students with new classes, different professors and overall butterflies in their stomachs as they embark on this new semester. However, in the midst of the normal nerves of excitement those attending the ARC campus are feeling at the start of the fall semester, students also faced confusion and worry as they learned that a student-athlete had brought a weapon onto the campus.
“It was reported, after the incident, that a student-athlete brought a weapon to their sports practice at the ARC Main Campus earlier this month,” according to an emailed statement released by the ARC Communications Office.
The Los Rios Police Department reported that there was no indication of a threat to the campus and when the report was made of the incident, the campus staff alerted the Office of Student Advocacy and Accountability and LRPD who immediately began an investigation that is still ongoing.
The individual is no longer allowed on the ARC campus and the LRPD has reassured the community that safety of the campus is their top priority.
“The Los Rios Police Department investigation into this incident is ongoing, but we take seriously the safety of our campus community at American River College and have a zero-tolerance policy with regard to weapons on campus,” Public Information officer Kaitlyn Collignon said in an email. “We encourage all members of our campus community to play a role in campus safety – if you see something, say something.”
