The Indigenous Peoples Day march made its way around the American River College campus on Oct. 9. Bear Jackson, elder of the Shoshone tribe of western Nevada, made it a priority to be at the march. “I took the time off work to share songs, words, dance and to watch our future leaders,” Jackson said. “You must have prayer and singing, it’s what makes us who we are. It’s important to teach it to our youth.”

Campus Pulse: Do you attend any ARC sporting events?
Since the closure of Davies Hall, classes have been moved all over campus, and not all of them are fit to be classrooms. Some classes are also being moved to multiple classrooms, which makes it hard for students to focus on education. (Photo Illustration by Heather Amberson)
Constant classroom changes disrupt student success
“I’m going as a Roman soldier, but more specifically the little guy from “Night at the Museum.” My friend is being the cowboy Jedidiah. We watched [the movie] and I was like ‘you kind of look like Owen Wilson’ so…” - Bailey Waldrep | Theater Arts Production Major
Campus Pulse: What are you dressing up as for Halloween?
“I think we should have some pasta here, [and] chicken or shrimp alfredo. I also think they should have put out a survey before we started school, so that we could get an opinionated collection of suggestions for food. Let’s add some more seasoning to the food please, it’s a little bland.” - Ameiah Williams | Music Production Major
Campus Pulse: Do you think the food options on campus are enough?
“We had our space before Davies Hall closed, but our division office was housed [there]. It’s been positive for us, because now faculty hang out in HomeBase, and we really want faculty involved. I would like to be in Davies, closer to our students, so when they get out of class they see the HomeBase. I think that it may be harder to find us… since we are so secluded it’s really hard to stumble upon us.” - Kaira Bradley | Language and Communication HomeBase Success Coach

“Most of my classes are in Davies Hall, so I don’t really know what I am going to do. Honestly a lot of people I can tell already are frustrated, because it’s so sudden as well.” - Rocky Berry | Psychology Major
