For the spring 2023 semester, American River College students don’t need parking permits in order to park on campus. However, employees are still required to have parking permits while parking in staff only designated spots.

Kaitlyn Collignon, ARC’s interim communications and public information officer, says that anyone who parks in red zones or goes overtime for metered parking will receive tickets. Parking meters on campus, such as near the administration building, are not in use. However, there are parking spaces with 20-minute time limits, and anyone who goes overtime may receive a ticket.

Students must ensure they’re parking in spaces that are not marked for staff, or else they will receive a ticket.

Students are allowed to park in the parking garage, the stadium parking lot, and the Myrtle East and West parking lots.

While there are plenty of parking lots located on campus, students are allowed to be dropped off at the staff parking lot near the parking garage. However, the parking lot is for staff only.

According to Chris Day, the Los Rios Police Department captain, anyone coming to campus can park for free. Still, while visitors don’t need a visitor’s pass, they must park in spots that are not for staff.

“Visitors coming to the campus for college events can park for free in student parking this semester,” Day said.

Students must follow parking regulations and avoid red zones, as per usual.

It is uncertain on whether or not free parking will continue through the summer and fall 2023 semesters, according to Day.

“It will be up to the district to decide on the parking amount,” Day said.

There is no further information at the moment from the district about the student parking situation in the future.

Free parking for students is also established at other Los Rios Community College District schools, such as Cosumnes River College, Sacramento City College, and Folsom Lake College.
