Los Rios Community College District Chancellor Brian King has tested positive for COVID-19, despite being fully vaccinated, according to Los Rios Deputy Chancellor Jamey Nye.

“You were probably expecting to see and hear from Chancellor King today for his traditional remarks. I’m sorry to say that he can’t be here, because despite being fully vaccinated, Chancellor King tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week,” Nye said during the Los Rios fall 2021 convocation on Aug. 20. “His symptoms have been relatively severe for a breakthrough case, but he is recovering and fortunately resting at home.”

According to Gabe Ross, LRCCD’s associate vice chancellor of strategy and communications, King is still in the recovery process.

“Chancellor King is recovering and feeling a little better each day. Because he is fully vaccinated, the situation could be a lot worse. He appreciates all of the warm wishes from throughout the Los Rios community, and strongly encourages everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible,” Ross said in an email to the Current.

On Aug. 4, the LRCCD announced that it would require all students and staff who access district or college facilities to have at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Oct. 1, 2021.
