On Jan. 6, former American River College student Jorge Riley joined thousands of Donald Trump’s supporters in storming the U.S. Capitol after Trump delivered a speech, in which many argue, he urged his supporters to go to the Capitol to protest the results of the November 2020 presidential election, which Joe Biden won.

“All of us here today do not want to see our election victory stolen by a bold and radical left Democrats, which is what they are doing, and stolen by the fake news media,” Trump said in his speech. “That is what they’ve done and what they’re doing. We will never give up. We will never concede. It doesn’t happen. You don’t concede when there’s theft involved.”

Riley, who was also a former member of the Associated Student Body, was arrested after admitting on video that he was involved in the storming of the U.S. Capitol, according to a CBS article.

Riley’s time with ASB was controversial, as in 2008, he supported Proposition 8, which eliminated the right for same-sex couples to get married. Also during his time with ASB, Riley had his election as the ASB Student Senate president invalidated.

According to the same article, Riley’s arrest was confirmed by the FBI and he is expected to face felony charges.

Riley is charged with two misdemeanors and one Class B felony, which falls under obstruction of Congress, according to Section 1512 of Title 18 of the U.S. Code.

In the video that he posted, which can be found on Reddit, Riley detailed what happened when he and others stormed into the Capitol.

“We pushed our way into Nancy Pelosi’s office and kept going further and further,” Riley says in the video. “We had a division; some people went to the left and some went to the right.”

Riley also details in the video, his opinion of why the group decided to storm the Capitol.

“We stopped the steal, because they were in there and they weren’t going to stop the steal, so we stopped the steal; we took our country back,” Riley says in the video.

Between Jan. 6 and Jan. 8, Riley posted over 150 messages, photos and videos discussing his involvement at the U.S. Capitol to his Facebook account, which is what led to his charges, according to the FBI.
