An international student attending various Los Rios colleges that had their F-1 visa revoked by the Department of Homeland Security recently had visa status reinstated on April 25, according to a district wide email from Sonia Ortiz-Mercado, the Los Rios Associate Vice Chancellor of Educational Services.
“We are happy to report that the Los Rios student whose F-1 visa had been initially revoked by the Department of Homeland Security has had that decision reversed and continues to attend Los Rios classes safely and legally,” Ortiz-Mercado said in the statement.
This comes following an announcement earlier that day from the Justice Department stating that records for international students will be temporarily reactivated as they design a new policy which will provide a framework for status record termination.
The return of visa status was recorded on the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, a federal system used to track and monitor foreign exchange programs, as well as the schools and residents involved.
“While this is encouraging news,” Ortiz-Mercado said in the statement. “We will remain diligent in following this situation closely and always ensure that we’re doing everything we can to keep our students safe.”
