With campuses still shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Los Rios Colleges Foundation continues to receive donations and provide help to students who are in need.
According to the Los Rios Colleges Foundation website, the fund is set up to assist students with refurbished computers, grocery gift cards, and hotel vouchers for homeless students.
According to Paula Allison, president of Los Rios Colleges Foundation, the fund has already helped many students.
“One hundred and sixty students received Student Emergency Fund grants totaling $102,415. Eighty-three computers were shipped directly to students who didn’t have one at home,” Allison said. “One hundred and fifty hungry students received $50 food gift cards, and $34,000 was transferred to the campus cares program to provide hotel stays for homeless students.”
According to Allison, the fund has raised over $200,000.
“We’ve raised $210,536 in COVID-19 Relief Funds to help students impacted by the pandemic,” Allison said.
According to a statement issued on behalf of the college by Scott Crow, ARC’s public information officer, the college is very thankful for everyone who has donated to the fund.
“Every dollar is appreciated, and every donation is making an impact,” Crow’s statement read. “To all relief fund donors we say – thank you!”
According to the foundation’s website, the fund provides immediate assistance, usually within 24 hours, to students who were involved in unexpected or catastrophic emergency situations.
For students to be eligible to apply, they must be in good standing, which means that they must be currently enrolled in at least six units at a Los Rios college, must have completed less than 60 units total at a Los Rios college, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, according to the foundation’s website.
Among other requirements that are listed on the website, students also should not have previously received student emergency funds, according to the foundation’s website.
Students can go to the foundation’s website, foundation.losrios.edu to apply.
