The Indigenous Peoples Day march made its way around the American River College campus on Oct. 9. Bear Jackson, elder of the Shoshone tribe of western Nevada, made it a priority to be at the march. 

“I took the time off work to share songs, words, dance and to watch our future leaders,” Jackson said. “You must have prayer and singing, it’s what makes us who we are. It’s important to teach it to our youth.”
