An attempted robbery took place near American River College Friday evening.
Friday at 6:14 p.m. a student on Myrtle Avenue was asked by a couple if they could borrow the student’s phone to make a phone call.
When the woman of the couple completed the phone call, the couple drove away with the student’s phone.
The student put their hand in the window of the car while it was moving and got their phone back. However, the student “sustained minor injuries in the fall from the vehicle,” according to a report from the Los Rios Police Department.
The suspected couple, a black man and woman, were in a green four door vehicle. The man was in his 30s and wore a gray t-shirt. The woman was also in her 30s and, according to the police report, had “long small braids gathered into a ponytail, wearing colorful clothing.”
The LRPD is requesting that anyone with information call 916-558-2221, and provided a list of safety tips in an email to students, which included walking in pairs, staying alert, keeping valuable items out of sight and carrying your keys in your hand as you walk to your car.
